Michael Widmer is a Managing Director and commodity strategist, leading the research coverage in mined commodities at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. He publishes a variety of research, including the Metals Strategist and Global Metals Weekly, which frequently feature among the most-read notes.

His team has been ranked #1 for commodity research in the 2014, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021
and 2023 Institutional Investor surveys; he was shortlisted as City AM Analyst of the Year in London
in 2013.

Michael joined BofA in 2009 from BNP Paribas where he had been Senior Metals Strategist. Before
BNP, he was Head of Metals Research at Lehman Brothers responsible for building the base and
precious metals research franchise in fixed income.

In his career, Widmer has held a variety of senior commodity positions, including head of Metals
Research at Calyon Corporate and Investment Bank. Michael also worked for Macquarie Bank.

He earned a dual MSc degree in Finance/Economics and International Management from the
University of Cologne in Germany, Università Bocconi in Milan and Norwegian School of Economics
in Bergen.
