Mujeeb Ijaz is the Founder and CEO of Our Next Energy (ONE), a Michigan-based energy storage company manufacturing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries for transportation and stationary applications.

ONE is focused on energy storage products with safer, more sustainable materials sourced from local supply chains. In 2021, ONE demonstrated 1210 km range on a single charge using its proprietary GeminiTM battery in a Tesla Model S.Ijaz has over 35 years of experience in electrification, including leadership positions at Ford Motor Company, notable for Ford’s EV world record of 207.3 mph in 2007. Ijaz became the Founder of A123 Systems’ automotive business, leading to the most successful IPO of 2009, which established America’s first LFP gigafactory and set another EV land speed record of 341.4 mph in 2016.

Before ONE, Ijaz was responsible for Apple’s autonomous electric vehicle battery, where his team demonstrated the world’s first LFP cell-to-pack battery system capable of more than 500 km range. Since 2018, this architecture for LFP batteries has achieved 16% of the global annual market share.

After founding ONE in 2020, Ijaz has raised over $700M in capital from public and private sources, including Breakthrough Energy Ventures, BMW iVentures, FifthWall, Temasek, and the State of Michigan. In 2023, ONE joined Rivian as the sixth unicorn valued at $1.2B after its Series B. In 2024, ONE was recognized as America’s #1 Startup Employer by Forbes, also receiving awards from Fast Company, Crains, and Autoweek.
Ijaz has developed supply agreements with major automotive and utility companies demonstrating 600-1000 km on a single charge and 7.8 MWh ESS products. Ijaz holds 81 patents in the development of electric vehicles and battery systems technologies, is a member of MIT Mobility Ventures, and is a recipient of the Goldman Sachs Builders and Innovators Award. Ijaz graduated with a BSME from Virginia Tech in 1990, where his mother and father, Drs Lubna and Mujaddid Ijaz, taught physics in the fields of Solar and Nuclear energy. Mujeeb, father to three and grandfather to three, has been married to Sabiha since 1989, when she joined in his efforts at Virginia Tech to build and race a solar car from Florida to Michigan in the inaugural GM Sunrayce USA
