Till Bußmann is Chief Technical Officer at Duesenfeld GmbH and focuses on the further development of eco-friendly battery recycling processes from discharge to black mass and its further processing, with special regard to CO2 savings for the growing number of lithium batteries and their use in e-mobility. Duesenfeld is the pioneer in the recycling of Lithium-Ion Batteries and has developed processes in more than ten years that do not require melting down or high-temperature treatment of the batteries and licenses these processes. Since the beginning, our processes have been focused on eco-friendly, CO2 avoidance and the highest recycling efficiency. The Duesenfeld process with mechanical shredding of the batteries and hydrometallurgical processing of the black mass is a low-temperature process. During mechanical shredding and inactivation of the batteries, drying takes place below 80°C and at a low vacuum. Only under these conditions are no toxic gases produced and no waste gas scrubbing is required. Only in this temperature range can also the solvents of the electrolyte, the graphite and the lithium be recovered in a purity so that it can be reused. Through this technology, Duesenfeld combines eco-friendly with maximum economic efficiency. Duesenfeld recycles batteries on an industrial scale to realise industry-related research and development in order to be able to map future trends at an early stage. Our business is the licensing of our processes and patents. Our licensing partners are car manufacturers, battery producers, chemical companies, automotive suppliers and recycling companies. Together with our cooperation partners from the plant engineering sector, turnkey plants for eco-friendly lithium-ion battery recycling using the Duesenfeld process are realised for our customers.
