Peter Stahley is a seasoned policy professional with extensive expertise in navigating the complex issues of energy and natural resources policy. His diverse career spans significant roles within the US Senate, the Department of the Interior, and the private sector.
As a key aide to Chairman Manchin at the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, Peter’s broad portfolio covered critical minerals and mining, supply chains, permitting reform, and energy policy on public lands and waters, including conventional and renewable energy leasing.
Peter’s essential role in the creation, drafting, and negotiation of key provisions of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, along with a leadership role in Senator Manchin’s permitting reform efforts, underscore his pivotal role in shaping significant legislative outcomes.
Prior to his Congressional service, as a licensed Civil Engineer, Peter navigated the complexities of real estate development in the New York/New Jersey area. His subsequent 11+ years with the National Park Service, primarily in Alaska, deepened his expertise in federal permitting and remote infrastructure projects, while strengthening his connection to America’s public lands.
Peter, a Pennsylvania native, enjoys cooking and spending time with his five kids, preferably outdoors. He earned a master’s from Columbia University and a B.E. from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey; both in civil engineering.
