John R. Barnwell joined the Environment and Energy section at the Canadian Embassy in Washington, D.C. as natural resources officer in 2019. Previously, John was the Director of Government Affairs and External Relations at the Society of American Foresters (SAF). At SAF, John advocated for the professional interests of natural resource professionals in the U.S. and abroad.

John holds an MA in city and regional planning and a BA in Forest Resource Management. A native South Carolinian, John enjoys exploring Mid Atlantic beaches, hiking through forests, and finding new music venues.
