Luis Lucero, Argentina’s Secretary for Mining, is a lawyer specialising in the mining industry and natural resources law, with vast experience in project funding, company law, arbitration, and complex litigation. He graduated as a lawyer from the University of Buenos Aires and completed postgraduate studies in Business Law at UADE University as well as a number of specialist courses and seminars, including government mining policy and mining business strategy at the University of Dundee; Negotiation at Harvard Law School; and Principles of Organisational Sciences both at Columbia Business School and Cambridge University. He was also awarded a Master of Artes with honours by University College London (UCL). He is a former partner at the Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal Law Firm and previously worked at other very important law firms in the country. He also served as a foreign law consultant at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman in the US and has been a member of the board or the audit committee of different mining, industrial and financial companies and gas distributors. Luis has also lectured on topics related to mining and project funding at different national and international organisations, including the Center for Energy, Petroleum, Mineral Law and Policy at the University of Dundee, where he was appointed Honorary Lecturer for the period October 2010 – September 2013; the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation; and the United Stated Geological Survey. He has been recognised as an outstanding professional in his area of expertise by many local and international publications.
