Mark leads the Nickel Institute’s Public Policy & Sustainability team and is responsible for ensuring that global regulation and legislation on nickel and nickel compounds is science-based, justified and takes account of the socio-economic importance and the life cycle perspective of nickel.

He joined the Nickel Institute in 2008 and prior to taking up his current role he was responsible for life cycle management and sustainability issues for the Nickel Institute and has contributed to the academic and scientific debate on life cycle assessment and the benefits of using and recycling nickel. He has also been involved in developing global sustainability standards.

Previously, Mark worked as REACH Coordinator at Aurubis, the integrated copper group and copper recycler and as Environmental Manager at Eurometaux, the European non-ferrous metals association.
Mark is a German citizen and holds a degree in Economic Geology and a PhD in Mining Engineering both from Aachen RWTH Technical University (Germany). He is based in Brussels.
