Jason LaTorre was appointed as Ambassador of Canada to Sweden in September 2021. Prior to his appointment, he served as Chief of Staff to Canada’s Deputy Minister of International Trade from 2019 to 2021.
During his career, he has served abroad as Senior Trade Commissioner at the Embassy of Canada in Washington, D.C. (2015 to 2019), Senior Trade Commissioner in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (2007 to 2010), and Trade Commissioner in Singapore (2003 to 2006).
Between his assignments abroad, he held a variety of management positions at Global Affairs Canada headquarters in Ottawa, Canada, during which he championed new trade programs and policies aimed at strengthening Canada’s global competitiveness.
He holds a bachelor of commerce degree in international business from the University of Victoria (1995) and a master’s degree in international affairs from Carleton University (2000).
He lives with his partner, Lauren Haney, in Stockholm, and has two teenage daughters, Maya and Madison.
